Tooth Whitening

Like it or not, a bright beautiful smile is increasingly important in today's world. Some people unfortunately are not blessed with naturally white bright teeth. Food and drink, smoking, as well as thinning of the enamel due to acids or ageing can all further darken teeth. Most people can restore a brighter smile with expert bleaching of the teeth.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Everyone knows that a beautiful smile opens all doors.

Cosmetic dentistry is all about appearance - making teeth whiter, straighter or more even, gums that are a healthy pink colour and smiles that sparkle.

Extractions

When periodontal (gum) treatment or restoration procedures such as root canal therapy, crown and fillings have not begun early enough to save a tooth, it may need to be extracted.

Root Canal Therapy

Root canal therapy has a very high rate of success (>90%).

In skilled hands, it is a non-painful procedure.... contrary to current urban myths!!

We take pride at Kawana Dental in reversing those myths and painlessly changing a diseased tooth surrounded by unhealthy bone into health.

Fissure Sealants

Fissures are the pits and grooves that naturally occur on the chewing surfaces of molar teeth. They are high risk areas for decay in newly erupted teeth. If the fissures are very deep and narrow, even excellent brushing can allow food particles and bacteria to remain behind. Sooner or later, depending on diet, this could mean decay and fillings.

High-Tech Office

Dentistry today has the most sophisticated, high-tech equipment ever available, allowing the dentist to treat and diagnose with remarkable precision. Such technology also vastly reduces, and in some cases eliminates, much of the pain and discomfort for you.

Snoring and Sleep Apnoea

Snoring and sleep apnoea is a "sleeping giant" of a problem in our community.

It is a serious issue. Your snoring could literally be killing you. (And not just because your partner wants to kill you...)

Snoring, daytime tiredness and nodding off, and waking unrefreshed are only the beginning. It's always been considered a nuisance, a standing joke, something to have a whinge or a laugh about.

Inlays/Onlays, Crowns and Bridges

When a tooth is heavily filled, had root canal treatment and insufficient tooth structure remains for an onlay, a full crown is needed. Crowns again are much stronger and longer lasting than fillings. Crowns can be made of Gold, Porcelain Fused to Metal, or All - Porcelain or Zirconium.

A Crown fits over the existing natural tooth and replaces the natural crown, the part of the tooth seen above the gums.

Fillings

White or ??? amalgam

At Kawana Dental we have been using white/tooth coloured fillings in both front and back teeth since 1987.

Frankly we find most patients prefer to have white or tooth colored rather than silver (amalgam) fillings.

Fluorosis and Microabrasion

Dental fluorosis is seen as small white flecks in the surface enamel of teeth. In minor cases it is usually not visible to patients but in more advanced cases it appears as large white patches or occasional pits in the tooth surface. After some years, stains may penetrate the white patches and they can appear brown.

Mouthguards

Prevention is preferable to cure.  It is essential for both boys and girls to wear properly fitted mouthguards for both training and competition contact sports.

Many traumatic injuries will occur outside of the sports arena in recreational activities and around the home. Please see Dental Emergencies.

X-rays

X-rays fall into 3 main categories:

1. Bitewings: mainly used to detect or confirm decay in theeth and assess the presence of gum disease between teeth.

2. Periapical Films: show the entire tooth, including the root and surrounding bone,  often used during root canal treatment.

3. Panoramic Films: a large view of the entire upper and lower jaws. Particularly useful for identifying abnormal growths in the jawbone, trauma to the jaws, and problems with wisdom teeth.
