Wisdom teeth removal | Sunshine Coast

Sometimes the best way to move forward with a painful tooth is to have it removed, especially for things like impacted wisdom teeth.

Sunshine Coast Dentist, Tooth Extraction

Not like the old days.

Tooth extraction procedures today are far less painful than ever before, thanks to powerful anaesthetics and sedative procedures.

In many cases, a patient who has a tooth extracted experiences little or no discomfort and minor bleeding.

Wisdom teeth.

Not so wise!

Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that hopefully erupt normally in the late teen’s mouth.

Unfortunately, many people experience problems from wisdom teeth; in most cases, this is because the teeth haven’t got sufficient room to “erupt” and fit in to the mouth.

This can cause issues like:

Impacted wisdom teeth

Painful gum infections (known as “pericoronitis”)

Damage, resorption or decay of the next door teeth (see below)

At Kawana Dental, we have several dentists with extensive experience in removing difficult wisdom teeth that might otherwise be referred to a surgeon to be performed under general anaesthetic.

We often utilise “twilight” sedation, provided by a fully qualified procedural sedationist within our practice, whose sole job is to provide safe and effective sedation during the removal of your wisdom teeth. Most people report no memory of the procedure.

As well as a standard OPG, we have the latest in 3D imaging technology (Conebeam CT) to accurately assess the position of the wisdom teeth and the proximity to anatomical structures like nerves in the jaw.

Occasionally, if we suspect there might be more risk for potential complications or difficulty, we will recommend you see a specialist surgeon.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
