Dental Implants Sunshine Coast

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are strong, man‑made replacements for the roots of missing teeth. They are usually made from titanium and are gently placed into the jawbone, where they bond with the bone in a process called “osseointegration”.

Once healed, a custom ceramic tooth (crown) is attached to the implant. The result is a tooth that looks, feels and functions very much like a natural tooth.

At Kawana Dental on the Sunshine Coast, we use advanced 3D imaging and digital scanning to plan the exact position of each implant for accuracy, stability and long‑term success.

Benefits of dental implants

Dental implants can offer several advantages compared with other tooth replacement options:

  • Look and feel like natural teeth
  • Help you chew and speak with confidence
  • Don’t rely on neighbouring teeth for support
  • Can help stabilise loose dentures
  • Designed as a long‑term solution with good care

Our goal is to provide implants that not only restore your smile, but also feel comfortable and easy to live with day‑to‑day.

Our dental implant process at Kawana Dental

There are two main stages to having a dental implant placed:

  1. Placement of the implant (the “root”)
  2. Placement of the crown (the “chewing” tooth you see in your smile)

We’ll walk you through each step, answer your questions and make sure you understand what to expect.

Stage 1 – Placing the implant

The first stage is a minor surgical procedure to place the dental implant into the jawbone.

  • We use sophisticated 3D imaging and scanning to plan the most optimal position.
  • The procedure is carefully carried out to keep you as comfortable as possible.
  • In many cases, a temporary tooth can be provided so you can eat, speak and smile more normally straight away.

The implant usually needs a few months to fully integrate (bond) with the jawbone. This healing time helps create a strong foundation for your new tooth.

Stage 2 – Attaching the new crown

Once the implant has integrated with the bone, the final ceramic crown is attached.

  • The crown is custom‑made to blend with your existing teeth in shape, size and colour.
  • You should expect it to fit and function very much like a natural tooth.
  • We’ll show you a few simple extra hygiene steps to keep the implant and surrounding gums healthy.

With regular check‑ups and good home care, dental implants can be a reliable, long‑term solution.

Dental implants and dentures

Lower dentures are often the most difficult to keep stable and comfortable. Dental implants can be used to improve the retention and function of dentures, particularly in the lower jaw.

Implant‑retained dentures can:

  • Feel more secure and stable
  • Make eating and speaking easier
  • Reduce rubbing and sore spots
  • Provide greater day‑to‑day confidence

We are proud to be a part of the Next Smile group, providing All-on-4 treatment to patients on the Sunshine Coast.

If you’re on the Sunshine Coast and struggling with loose dentures, our team at Kawana Dental can discuss whether implant‑supported options may help.

Who is a good candidate for dental implants?

Many people with missing teeth are suitable for dental implants, but a thorough assessment is important. Factors we consider include:

  • General and oral health
  • Amount and quality of jawbone
  • Gum health
  • Lifestyle factors such as smoking
  • Your treatment goals and expectations

At your consultation, we will examine your mouth, take any necessary scans, and talk you through the options available, including alternatives to implants if they’re more suitable.
